The IoD Marketing Communications group are pleased to co-host this event with Marks & Clerk where we will have the opportunity to hear from experts in the field, as well as experience business leaders on the important subject of intellectual property.

The event aims to provide business leaders with a comprehensive understanding of intellectual property (IP) and its relevance and importance in the field of marketing.

The discussion will cover various aspects of IP, including trademarks, copyrights, patents, and trade secrets, and how they impact marketing strategies, campaigns, and content creation.

Speakers

Annie Brooking - Strategic Product Marketer and Business Consultant, Magic Monkey

Annie Brooking is a leading business consultant. She is a renowned public speaker, with a rich history of bringing high-technology products to market, particularly disruptive technologies. To date, she has successfully brought 19 products to market in Europe and the USA and is currently working on another four.
In total, Annie has spent more than 27 years as a CEO in high technology companies in Europe. She specialises in CEO mentoring, product strategy, and strategies to add value to start-ups and scale-ups.

Francis Goss - Founder and Managing Director, MoneyFit

Francis is the founder and Managing Director of MoneyFit, an award-winning employee financial wellbeing solution and Qudos, a SaaS employee appreciation platform.
He is former director of People Experience at Gallagher - global insurance, risk, and consulting, and has over 20 year’s HR consulting experience.
Francis is also a Non-Executive Director at Exclusive Collection including Royal Berkshire and Pennyhill Park Hotels advising on HR strategy. He is on the advisory board of Engage for Success, the UK’s taskforce on employee engagement, and a board trustee at Toybox, a charity supporting street children around the world, and is also on the DWP’s Pensions Dashboard Advisory Group.

Michael Barrett - Partner, Marks & Clerk

Michael has over 15 years’ experience as a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney (UK) and more than 20 years’ experience as a solicitor. He advises brand owners on all aspects of trade mark protection and registration, including portfolio management, clearance searching, trade mark prosecution, opposition, cancellation, revocation, licensing, assignment, infringement and the law of unregistered trade marks/passing-off.
Michael heads up the Financial Services sector group and assists clients in a variety of other sectors including transport, digital transformation, medtech, creative industries, food and drink, homeware, retail & sports. He acts for a number of asset and wealth management enterprises, investment vehicles, real estate investors, commodities trading businesses.

Moderator: Jeremy Duncan - Partner at Reggie London, Marketing Chair IoD London

Jeremy is a Partner and Brand Strategy Director at Reggie London, an award-winning independent brand and communications consultancy. He has worked in communications for over 30 years, firstly on the advertising and marketing fronts within the publishing sector for Reed and Condé Nast.
He built and ran a leading design consultancy, advised agencies and businesses as an independent consultant and was involved in a digital PR start-up before joining Reggie London in 2014.
Jeremy has extensive experience of working in most industry sectors, having led major branding projects for many household names in the UK and internationally.

Simon Portman - Of Counsel, Marks & Clerk

Simon specialises as a commercial contract lawyer for technology companies. He works for clients in the electronics, bioscience, defence, software, nanotech and creative industries, advising companies ranging from small start-ups to big multinationals as well as individuals, public bodies and charities.
He advises on a wide range of contracts, including licenses, R&D collaborations, manufacturing agreements and procurement documentation. He has advised on compliance with clinical trials legislation and novel food applications, as well as freedom of information and data protection issues.
Simon has co-written two business textbooks, contributed articles to numerous publications and was part of a UK IPO steering group putting together policies and contracts suitable for R&D collaborations in China.
